Default not using electric water heater geyser for a long time

In one of my bathroom, I have a geyser(15 lit) for bath purpose only, which is not frequently used. To save electricity, I have switch off the geyser, since it will be, only required in winter.

So does bacterial growth and diseases such as Legionaires' disease develop inside it, if not used for long time. Also does it cause any harm to its element e.g thermostat rod rust or corrosive or sediment build up.

    Thank you.

There are chances of sedimentation if you don't use it for a long time. I don't see any threat of bacterial growth. Try to use it at least once a week so that it will be in good condition in the winter.

That is true enough. Any appliance or locomotive device should be kept in running condition at all times. Else degeneration sets in.

you mean, the geyser should be on mode or the geyser hot water tap should be open occasionally.

He means the hot water tap should be opened occassionally and also switch on the geyser sometime. Acc. to me do this every fortnight or so.

It good to use it at least once a day, whether its for washing your hands or having a shower or bath. Because the geaser is not on, you wont get hot water so it is usable.
