    Default Suggest me a DSLR

Okay... I am not planning to become a photographer or anything. Now a days anyone with a DSLR consider themselves as some professional guy! Anyway I am not aiming for cameras at range of 50K. From 25 to 35K.

I never used DSLR and wanned to try my hands on that. I need to know everything from the basics, like wide angle lens, aperture and all tips and tricks.

I one I have shot listed now is the Sony NEX 5 K. Guys, reviews please?
    NEX-5K : NEX-5 : NEX Camera (E-mount) : Sony India
This one is small but has interchangeable lens!
    Any alternate suggestions?

    Regards
    Nevin.

From my own experience, let me guide you (away).

Unless one is really serious about photography, and willing to tag along the (heavy and cumbersome) DSLR plus lenses everywhere, one should not think about it. In the initial euphoria, enthusiasm and excitement, the DSLR will be used, even frequently. Then everything tapers down and DSLR use reduces from once a month to twice a year and them only on occasions once in few years. Photography is not about what equipment you have it is capturing the moment. Rank amateurs bother and brag about gear, serious photographers worry about being at the right place at the right time.

The DSLR like every other equipment should be constantly used else it starts attracting mildew and fungus.

If everything above is going to apply to you then buy a good spec P&S instead for 10~12k.

I agree with Just4kix on dslr but I would recomend an advance point and shoot instead. I recently bought a Nikon P510 and I am happy with the results so far. It cost me Rs 25k including a tripod.
I can post some pictures I have clicked with it if you want to see the results to help you make a decision.

Well, I have a point and shoot camera, but this time I needed something more advanced and so I thought of this. Moreover this particular model is the "mirror less" versin of DSLR, making it in the hign end of point and shoot cameras. And another reason, if at some point I can use the function of lens chagability to try wide angle lens also! Anyways, I am not going to buy it until I do a detailed research! .

I suppose if you already have a point and shoot camera and now going for a DSLR then you should go for it. I dont know much about DSLR's but I quite like Canon DSLR's and have seen alot of pros using the Canon brand.
J4K knows quite a lot of photography, so Im sure he would give you some good suggestions...

The one you have thought about buying looks good and is very sleek!

Canon has a model 600D which is around 30 K, and is selling well, Nikon also has few models in similar budget. You can go for either depending on your preference. Personally i am using a 650D and very happy with it.

Yes it is.... But when I went through all the reviews, I changed my mind. I'm an amateur photographer, and buying a DSLR means buying more lens, and with the current camera (with the zoom of 1200mm), the same lens itself in a DSLR would come more than 90000INR! The present model is more than just point and shoot, it has got all the settings of a DSLR except interchangeable lens. Even viewfinder is integrated. Why waste money on a DSLR?

That is the very reason I did not buy a DSLR. I just could not justify spending so much on a camera when I dont even know how to use it. Apart from the costs it is also a pain carrying the whole thing with even two lenses if you are going for a holiday. I got an advance point and shoot and it was cheap and the pictures come out fairly decent quality. If one day I feel that I actually need a DSLR and would have a slight clue how to use it then I might look into it but doesnt look like it is going to happen in this life time

I completely agree. So even though I am an SLR fan, have lenses (which can be used with the DSLR), I have not purchased the DSLR.
