Default LCD's and LED's from foreign countries

Alot of people when going abroad, in specific Dubai, always suggest or actually purchase a LCD or LED from there to bring back home. The main reason for this is that its much cheaper out there.

But when I thought about this, alot of disadvantages came into my mind:

    1) Because your travelling on a plane your tv will go through check in. There is a 99% chance that the TV can break, the screen can crack as there is no guarantee that the TV will be handled well.

    2) When your TV arrives, and if there is some technical problem with it later on, will this be covered in the warrenty? (because it has been purchased from another country)

If any of these two incidents occur then your money has gone down the drain, so in the long run your better of purchasing your LED or LCD from India...

Yep, TV should be purchased from India, especially because now we've all types of TVs available there.

If you're purchasing TV, Laptop, etc. from abroad, make sure that it comes with the International warranty too or you may be required to purchase it for a small cost.

The chances of damage are much less if the TV is packed properly and is in its original carton. You can mark the carton properly and even insure the item against damage. That part is much less of a risk. The second is about warranty. That is a bigger risk. A TV (or for that matter any electronic item) purchased outside India will not carry warranty inclusion in India, even if the item says International Warranty. But then again, the standard warranty is for one year only. If you buy a TV from a reputed brand such as Sony, Samsung, etc., it is highly unlikely that anything will go wrong.

The main reason to buy a TV abroad is the price difference. For example, the price difference on a 46" LED TV could be as much as 25K, after considering original invoice price, freight cost, customs duty and local transport. This is significant. Flat panel large screen TVs are usually wall mounted. The wall mount comes free in India. The purchase in India also comes with free installation and check-up. This will be missing from an international purchase. So this cost must be factored in.

Personally, I would stick to buying a TV in India. For one thing, when I purchased my own TV (a 50" plasma), such a TV is termed as oversize baggage. A plasma TV weighs much more than equivalent sized LED. So the airline freight charges would be prohibitive. Unlike LED TV, the plasma panel is all glass and hence there is a greater risk. But leaving that aside, even for an LED TV, I would consider local purchase, especially for 40" and above size.

As stated above, "International warranty" is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Didnt know there was something like international warrenty too.

@J4K - that is a big price difference, but like you have said there will be customs, extra baggage charges so there will extra charges for this. So its well worth getting a tv from India.

Not sure about other brands, but Sony does include India in its International Warranty.

The price difference is after base price, shipping cost, customs duty, etc.
