Default How to stop pigeons from coming ontop of air conditioner

I have a window ac, and for some time now I have been getting pigeons sitting on them and making so much noise all throughout the day and night. They have even nested there and laid eggs and they have hatched. My balcony is full of pigeon poop every day, and I haven't been able to go out into my balcony in the mornings or even open my balcony door because of the pigeon poop.

How do I get rid of those pigeons??

I'm searching for a solution to this pigeon problem too. They poop, they hump and they make lot of sound on the AC.

I heard if you put a mirror on top of the ac, pigeons dont come. You can also hang some useless cds on top of the ac, these will reflect sunlight which will keep away the pigeons......hopefully this will stop the pigeons from coming ontop of the ac.

I have been tolerating this for years. Does anyone have a real solution ot this problem. I had pigeons make a big nest before summers started on one of the aircons and then they laid eggs and they hatched while summers started so I didint turn on that ac fearing the new borns wont survive so waited another three weeks and only got the nest removed once they started flying. It was a lot of trouble to say the least.

I actually thought I would get a box or something fitted on top... doesnt sound realistic though. I really have no idea how to get rid of them.

Having a box fitted on top is ok until it starts raining, the box will get wet and could eaily be flown awa if its windy.

I heard somewhere that if you keep a teddy bear at the spot, birds will stay away.

Actually my relatives have done this, so I havent personally tested it, but something which they have done. I didnt actually ask them if it keeps the pigeons away or not, but all I know is they used this method.

Isnt there any bird netting you can use. That way it wont look bad and it would stop the pigeons from coming onto your ac. If thats not easily avaliable (dont know if it is as havent seen them mysel or heard of them in India) you can try using the security wires used ontop of walls to prevent robbers climbing over.

I used to get the same problem. Fortunately, my AC is installed that at the top of window and it has small room between window top and AC. I plugged the space using large rolls of old cloth/curtains.

A wire mesh may work also provided that it is tastefully installed and does not look a mess.

I thought your supposed to leave some space ontop of the ac and it shouldnt be blocked!!!

I block the frontage (i.e. back side) only. The AC's main ventillation for hot air is from the back side and not at top and bottom.

Ok, but what about the top sides of the ac, do you cover these as well, because pigeons can easily go in from the top sides too, if only the top back is covered.

I think some one should create a device which would have a motion sensor and would create a flash or light or some sound at a frequency that only birds can hear whcih can be placed on top the the ac unit. Even better if it would come built in from the ac manufacturer.

Dont pay too much attention to my posts. I havent slept well.

In Pune, where I am from, we require the AC from mid-March to mid-June and then in October. During rest of the time, I keep it covered. Pigeons like to build nests and mate during early winter. But they won't build the nest, if the AC makes noise when it is operating. So try covering up AC when not in use.

So the AC isnt used that much during the year! When you say that after June you dont need the AC, is it not humid then? Do you just use ceiling fans for cooling?

There is a lot of rain from mid-June to end-Aug. The temp is around 25?C peak on an average. Fan is required sometimes. End-Sep to end-Oct the temp goes up to 33?and AC is sometimes required. Nov-Dec-Jan-Feb is the best time in Pune.

Another option for getting rid of pigeons - have a perigrine falcon for a pet.

Ive put two boxes on top of the ac, had to put two as couldn't find one big enough to cover all the ac. The boxes are fine height wise but width wise they are a bit small so I've put the boxes upfront and left the back a bit empty. One day the box fell so put it back on top of the ac properly, and what do I see pigeons still lurking around. I don't understand where they sit, they also sit in the window seal of the house in front waiting to come on top of the ac.

Ok sorry to say this idea doesnt last very long either, the snake flew away and the pigeons came back! They eventually figured out that the snake was a toy.

I had totally blocked any access for pigeons to sit on top of the ac, and in the early mornings hours I heard pigeons again and they snuggled up in a small gap in the box. So today I have blocked of all gaps and areas where even a small mouse can enter, hopefully fingers crossed wont see pigeons ontop of my ac anymore.
