Default LG V10 - LG's new Android phone with a second screen!

LG V10 the new Android phone from LG is all set to launch in its home country, Korea in October. The phone got a number of specialties like a second screen and a dual front camera. It is said that the second screen is for shortcuts which enhances the comfort in using the phone. The dual front camera is for wider selfies and better video capturing experience.

In other aspects it is somewhat similar to LG G4 for Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Processor, 300 mAh battery and a powerful 16 megapixel camera.

I think this model has to face a stiff competition from the forthcoming Samsung foldable phone.

No doubt, this phone packs some of the very unique and new features but I doubt about the dual screen functionality. I have already seen a Yotaphone 2 which also packs a dual screen, but it was a big flop in Asian markets. Practically, I don't think dual screen is going to be a good idea. As far as dual cameras are concerned, Huawei already came up with this feature in the Honor 6 plus, but it doesn't performed well and clicked some ordinary pictures. Anyways, let's see how this new offering from LG performs. Thanks for sharing btw

I'm also failing to see the advantage of a dual screen device so I'm not sure what sort of market they're aiming for with this, apart from the niche market. I have a feeling it might be a phone that will sell well at the beginning but will fade away to be honest, only time will tell.

@pwarbi You are absolutely right! It might create some interest in the people's mind in the beginning, but it will not last for a long time. I don't see any practicality in using a dual screen phone and it would be quite confusing for people like me make a use of it. Anyways, its really good to see such big changes in the smartphone world. Let's see what comes next.

As for the changes and development of mobile devices then any new idea should be applauded, and I think that tend is set to continue while all the manufacturer's look at ways to increase their market share.

Some of these innovations will work, others won't and I think this might be a device that won't.

Like you say though, let's see what comes next.

Hmm that's what I feel too! Although there are many advanced features introduced day by day in mobile world, I feel some of the features are not going to come in use in daily to day life, lets say NFC. Though its a good feature added to the smartphones, still there are very less number of people who make use of it.

I am also a little bit skeptical about dual screen and doesn't see any practical use of a second screen there. Is a second screen exclusively for shortcuts really necessary? I don't think so. But may be once we actually see it may change our overall view about the handset. I think dual front camera can be a handy feature everybody is looking at. This will enable to shoot videos/picture from difference angles. But since LG not being a top brand in Android market, we can't expect much.

Last time when I saw a review of Yotaphone 2, which too is a dual screen phone, the second screen was mostly used for notifications and chats which said to be saving a lot of battery because the second screen is a FWVGA display. As far as dual cameras are concerned, there are already some phones in the market which already posses this feature. But, this feature was not more than a gimmick.

I wouldn't have thought that the resolution of the second screen or what it's used for would matter because won't it still be using more battery than a device with just the one screen in the first place?

Well, its actually a drawback. There's a burden of two displays on a single battery and sadly, it consumes too much battery. Even users in their review said that they don't find much use of the secondary display and that, its just a gimmick. Another concern was the price of Yotaphone 2, as it was too high for average public like me.

That's what I was meaning, two screens instead of one will always draw more power from the battery. The screen is the biggest drain on a battery as we know, so having two will obviously lessen the usage time.

The LG V10 with its 5.7 inches, is the response of LG to the larger size of the year of smartphones, the Note 5, the Galaxy S6 Edge +, the Style Moto X and the Nexus 6P.
