I just checked the tariffs and its just too good to believe .... It would be great if they started their services here in Delhi aswell.

Do we have anyone using Railwire broadband service? Any reviews ?

I would love to get their 4mbps unlimited connection which is available at Rs2120

All other isp's would have to cut their prices if Railwire starts becoming available every where

Man, I'm so exicted you just made another sub-forum for it!!

Well, I have a guy in Bangalore, just met in him in the other forums. He said he got the 2 mbps connection installed around in June. Everything was done within 2 days as promised. The guys were nice and properly taught, knew every single detail anyone could ask!

The download speed is always above 1.9 mbps and the upload speed is always above 1.7 mbps. They said he can complain if the download speed goes down below 1.8 mbps and they'll get it right. And there are no disconnections on his connection.

It's controlled by the Indian Railways btw.

Well, the project was started back in 2001-2003. But discontinued in between.
Their network is fibre optics and as far as I know, they provide a direct wire which goes in the CPU. No Modem, nothing else.

By the way, no installation and activation charges too!!

I'm just posting it here and there and letting everyone know + asking them to sign the petition. Hope this petition helps.

And I heard they are targetting Tier-II and Tier-III cities. Do you know what it means ? I just can't figure it out.

Lalu Ji has recently started to do good work at national level... Hope he starts doing something for his home state too... And bring the Railwire here in Patna... Seems his IT professional son in-law has changed his mindset... Else when his party was in power in bihar... Lalu ji said "ye IT-YT kya hai? kya gareeb ka pate bharega?"...lol

But I don't think he should be partial about anything, and make this ISP the best of India with all the good things pushed in.

I want this ISP to earn name, fame, honour and respect.

Signing the petetion wont really make much difference in my opionion (I might be wrong) this is India.

The best thing to do would be file a RTI application and ask why has this not been launched across India and what are the hurdles... There might be dirty money changing hands behind the scenes.. May be private operators bribing some of the decision makers ... dont know really but this is a very big possibility.

What else has stalled this project? Th last time I read about them was 2 years ago and they still cover the same area and no additions.

This really sucks. And THIS is the reality of broadband in India. I say - No Railwire for 5 more years. Thinking pratically, this just isn't possible. I really don't understand why everyone is exited about this Railwire stuff.

What is it about the ISP this service offers that makes it unique? Is it a variant on dynamic IPs?

Before you go all out filing an application for RTI on why this service is not
available in other places in India be advised that the said ISP is still in BETA
version. All you would get as an answer to your application (if at all you file one)
is that they are still conducting various test in handful locations before they start to expand.

Default sorry to spoil the party folks

All u guys have been misinformed .Go to their website (railwire.in ) and see for urselves what i am talking about . Go to the webpage under traiffs and plans just below the tariffs they have mentioned about the ports being in the ratio of 1: 4 contention ratio which literally means the plan IRW010 WITH DOWNLOAD SPEED OF 4 MBPS and costing Rs 2120 will be shared by 4 people and ur actual speed would be 4 Mbps/ 4 PEOPLE so the effective speed works out to 1 Mbps per connection. So for u to enjoy 4 Mbps in actual terms out of the 4 shared connections the rest of the 3 connections will have to be idle which is highly improbable. I am enclosing a snap for all of u to see. Hope i was of help to u guys.

Default Dont be More exited. 5 truths of RailWire.

I am using RailWire in bangalore..

I wanted to tell u few things..

    1. The connections are through cable.. ur local cable operator will handle. Which we know its the worst.. if rain comes. there are packet drops.
    2. The connection is 1:4 . For Eaxmple: 4Mbps /4 = 1Mbps.
    3. If we see the above equation, its the same i pay for 1 Mbps dedicated line from reliance WIMAX or Tata"s.
    4. The worst thing of all is. There is some filtering going on in the network some where.. torrents will not work. Streaming sites will not work mostly. All are blocked.
    5. The Second worst thing i faced is, They give you a NAT IP. you can not use rapidshare, meghavideo,.. any time and data limit sites. in reliance I get Public IP for the price of 2k /year.
    6. Do u believe that till now i could not open thepiratebay.org and icicbank.com from RailWire network

I really dont know whether its a problem with RailWire or local cable operator.. but this is the fact..

    Thank's
    Ram Sumanth.Ch

ok here's how I look at it.

BSNL gives a contention ratio between 1:20 to 1:50 so 1:4 is good.

    Courtesy Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

    specifically question 31

What is contention or a contention ratio?
To provide a cost effective service - all ADSL services are contended (shared). These contention ratios are applied in the backbone and international part of the network. A commonly applied contention rate is 50 : 1. All customers are guaranteed the plan rate up to the local exchange or the ADSL equipment to which they are connected. On the shared part of the network a 50:1 contention ratio would mean that a 2 Mbps connection would be shared by 49 others. In reality this is very unlikely to happen and the customer would find the connection much faster than dial-up modems. ADSL relies on individual users not making unreasonable traffic demands on the network to provide fast access speeds for all. If you are not getting the speed you expect, it can be due to the contention ratio but also to many other factors including the congestion at the remote site you are accessing.
The downside though is filteration and managing stuff as network expands. There is a widely held belief that DSL is more manageable than cable as network expands (or words to that effect)

    Thumbs up Correction.

    Hi Guys!

A word again on railwire from bangalore!! What i have pointed out previously were just my perception towards the difficulties. Now im a user of railwire since 3 months...

    The drawbacks that i mentioned are almost overcome;
The P2P is working awesome now. Its all the problem with my Wi-Fi router that is blocking few sites..

That is now resolved and i just want to say RAILWIRE will be the best ISP every in INDIA. All other ******* ISP's are just to bag money. No service, no response. Railwire have a decent technical guys over there. Their response is pretty knowledgeful.

i give 4.5/5 rating. 0.5 will be lost by railwire because they operate through cable operators. Where reliability & Quality is '0'

I hope we all will be more happy if Railwire come with more widerange of technologies like Wi-Max at the same type of price tags. That will be really slapping the remaining ISP's direct on to there face.

i also hope our loving India to go forward with more such cheap, economical and ethical business models.

i sincerely hope that railwire expands its geo area base. i stay in whitefield. but the service is not available for even entire whitefield. only around brookefield area which is part of whitefield. i called them(railwire guys) and asked for connection in my locality. reply was negative. said to apply after 30 to 45 days.

Default This Railwire seems like a Mirage...

I live in Marathalli in Bangalore which supposedly is covered by Railwire but this is only partially true. Here's my story...
In October beginning a guy from Railwire came to my flat & gave details about their service. I was astonished & very glad to hear all that since i was really looking for a Broadband connection & their offer was like a dream come true  but i didn't confirm connection at that moment & asked them to contact back.
On 16th October i applied for it & the guy told me that it'll take about 7 days to get connection done. Now to conclude the story in brief.... those 7 days are not over yet!!! Yes,from 16th Oct till today they haven't installed the connection. Meanwhile, i have contacted them hundred times but all in vain. Thank god i got Airtel connection after few days of wait & using that only till today...
So that's my experience with Railwire.. one question to people who are using it, the guy who came to my house with all details told me that first 3 months of connection will be absolutely free!! Is it true??

    Hi,
I am from Mumbai and the way the ISPs operate it will be forever before railwire comes to Mumbai and then to my locality (which is currently a internet blackhole... nobody i mean nobody provides connections in my locality).
Hell man It took me 1 hr to move from B'luru to Mumbai following the NH4 on the map provided on the railwire website... (sorry slow day in office )....

Default Big lobby behing internet connection

I recently shifted to Whitefield area and came to know about Railwire. I enquired about that. They said broadband line in my area is not available.

Story goes long. I had BSNL connection in my last residence for last 3 years and I was quite satisfied with the service. To my surprise at my new residence the BSNL line is also not available. Initially I opted for BSNL transfer had to cancel due to non availibility of broadband line of BSNL.

What is available is only Airtel. There are many housing complex and big apartment are there in my road and to my surprise still BSNL did not put their cable. It is only 2 kms from ITPL IT hub of Bangalore.

When I cancelled my telephone from BSNL one person from BSNL said their is lobby going on for broadband connection. Private ISP bribe hefty amount to BSNL top brass to delay putting their broadband line. It will come only after some year when most of the potential customer gone to private ISP.

Being a railwire user i am quiet happy with the speed and the tarriffs. I am getting unlimited 1 mbps @ rs. 920 and believe me guys I get a downloading speed of almost 920-960kbps and uploading 700-750kbps. And if there is any issue with the connectivity the customer service guys are pretty helpful they even call you back as they promise which is something i never got previously in airtel, sify or pacenet. My only complaints is with my local service provider who unfortunately always has some so called switch problem and the net gets disconnected due to this problem of his. But each of my call to the customer care has been satisfactory. If I faced a problem they tried to fix it at the earliest. People in Bangalore go for railwire its the best one to my knowledge provided you are not in CV ramannagar with my local service provider lol.

    Smile railwire in jayanagar bangalore

i got a leaflet from "sky enterprises" regarding railwire the concerned person is coming tomorrow planning to take the 2 mbps ult plan. Now they are providing also in jayanagar in bangalore. currently i am having 1mbps bsnl connection.

any user of rail wire in bangalore preferably from some south bangalore, would like to get some feed back about their connectivity, speed and response time in case of breakdown.
